- Hotel near Reims fit for a king (make that a président!)
Sometimes we’re so bogged down with personal and planetary pressures, it’s easy to forget that from time to time we need to wrap ourselves up in a Perfect Place, somewhere to restore, rewind and relax ‒ not to mention reinject a bit of romance back into our run-ragged lives. So, if we told you that within minutes of landing in said Perfect Place you’d be sun-lounging on a chateau terrace (champagne in hand, car and bags taken care of, oh – merci!) with one eye on the pool, and nose veering towards the uber-refined chateau restaurant, we think it won’t take us too long to convince you that – whether it’s for a 1 night break or a deliciously long spell ‒ that Perfect Place is a romantic weekend break at the Domaine-de-Barive hotel near Reims in Northern France ‒ all within 4 hours driving of London!

Stock up in the Champagne region
If you are stopping over close to Champagne on the way to or from your ski trip, its a great idea to stopover a bit longer and fill up the boot with some bubbles. You can head into the larger towns like Reims or Epernay where yu will find the bigger Champagne houses, or why not hunt out a few bargains from the lesser known, but equally delicious, smaller houses? “Maison Lévêque-Dehan”, a family of winegrowers for five generations. Mr Lévêque-Dehan will take great pleasure in showing you round the vineyard, adapting the visit to your wishes. Two fabulous features: discovering the different varieties of grape and his delightful little museum. What’s more he’s a genuinely warm and friendly gentleman.
