- Cottage near Calais and sea - 2 night family farm stay for 5
With so many new sensations to experience in our region of France, it’s little wonder people leave us feeling renewed. Just in this part alone – Calais and its surrounding area – in the space of just one weekend you could be soaring high on the incredible cliffs at Cap Blanc Nez, looking out from the top of Calais’ lighthouse, running on the beach, touching the local lace chosen for the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress, and getting nail bitingly close to sharks at Boulogne sur Mer’s aquarium (the biggest in Europe!). If you like the sound of staying in a cottage near Calais with a lovely garden the kids will love, ‘La Tour de Nielles’ is your perfect base for a 2-night break and you’ll find it in the quiet village of Nielles-lès-Calais just a 10-minute drive from the ferry terminal or Eurotunnel terminal in Calais.

My favourite outings in Calais
When you come to Calais, there are places that are simply unmissable; unique and spectacular, they're just perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. I love the Grand Site of the 2 Capes, a classified Grand Site de France, is imposing, refreshing, and the view it offers of the sea and the White Cliffs of Dover is simply magnificent: perfect for an intimate stroll hand-in-hand along a scenic hiking trail. If you would like to meet some locals, there's nothing like a visit to the Channel, one of the city's cultural hubs, where you can enjoy a truly excellent glass of wine in the building of the former abattoirs located at the port. I also recommend seeing the view from the top of the magnificent belfry of Calais, with its bird's-eye view of the Bourgeois de Calais by the famous French sculptor, RODIN, and its panoramic view of the sea. You won't be sorry!
