- Birding Parc d'Isle
Situated in the very heart of Saint-Quentin in Picardy, the Marais d’Isle nature reserve stretches over some 48 hectares. Located in an urban environment, it is the only nature reserve of this kind in France.
Just under 160 species of birds have been observed on the site situated on a major migration route. You can often see the Eurasian teal, the Sedge warbler, the Common pochard, Great crested grebes and Little grebes. The Marais d’Isle is also well-known thanks to attracting certain rarer nesting species such as the Western marsh harrier, the Bluethroat, the Eurasian bittern, the Little bittern and Savi’s warbler.
A very rich flora is also developing. Over 150 species have been observed including three protected species: cowbane, the Greater Spearwort and Coloured pondweed. Le Marais d’Isle is one of the last places in Northern France where cowbane can still be found; it appreciates the continental climate which is typical of the Upper Valley of the Somme.
A large number of specially-developed paths enable birdwatchers to discover the site.
Guided visits are regularly organised by the “Maison de l'Environnement”, the starting point for all the discovery outings.
Things to do: canoeing, fishing, walking, children’s play areas, open-air fitness centres, beach, mini-golf, small farmhouse.
