- Herbarium des Remparts in Saint Valery sur Somme
A veritable labour of love by passionate gardener Nicole Quillot, this charming and rather poetic garden perched high on Saint Valery’s medieval battlements in the Somme Bay brings together more than 1,000 species of ornamental, historical, edible and medicinal plants and spices in emulation of a nuns’ hospital garden that once flourished on the site.
Taken over by gardening devotee Nicole Quillot in the 1990s, it has been reconstructed from a single surviving apple tree and is run on sustainable principles, without the use of fertilisers or pesticides. Visitors are welcomed from May to October, daily except Mondays.
