- Tour the Jardin d’Humeroeuille at ‘Plant Castle’
Perfect for getting away from routine but also ideal for those who want to learn something, the Jardin d’Humeroeuille is a little gem in Northern France.
Just 75 minutes’ drive from the Channel Tunnel and ferry port of Calais, between the Opal Coast with its sandy beaches, dunes and soaring cliffs and the city of Arras with its rich World War I history, the Jardin d’Humeroeuille is a place to leave stress behind and reconnect with nature, with oneself and with your partner.
Open from June to September each year, it’s also a place to immerse yourself in some French art de vivre. The gardens surround the charming Château d’Humeroeuille, nicknamed Château Flore (‘Plant Castle’) precisely because of this incredible garden. The château has been in the same family since 1717, but the gardens were created from 1985 by Isaure, Jean-Charles and Philippe de Boncourt. Over the course of their passionate labours, new spaces came into being, including an ‘avenue’ bordered by chestnut trees, a hornbeam maze, an arboretum and a scented trail. Don’t miss the collection of more than 100 varieties of hydrangea and the spectacular English lavender parterre made of 480 plants.
The two-hectare garden is also the site of an annual plant festival and antiques fair along with other events throughout the year, and visitors can visit the main courtyard and listed staircase of the historic building.
Save the date June 27th 2021: "Fête des plantes" (flower show) & flea market.
