- The rose garden of L'Abbaye de Chaalis
Within stunning parkland encircled by a loop of the river Launette, the rose garden at the ruined 13th-century abbey of Chaalis in the Oise was commissioned in the 1920s by Louis Gillet, curator of the on-site Musée Jacquemart-André, and reimagined by garden designer André Gamard in 2000. It’s honoured each June during the Abbaye’s Journées de la Rose – ‘floral salons’ featuring more than 100 horticultural exhibitors.
You can combine a tour of the rose garden with a viewing of some remarkable Renaissance frescoes by Francesco Primaticcio, housed in an intact chapel in the park.
Please note the Chateau Museum is not open during the week in the winter season, but the gardens and chapel are open.
