Perfect for bonding time with the kids, Saint Paul theme park in Northern France is full of quirky rides and attractions that put all ages in a joyful mood.
Saint Paul theme park: 45 family attractions and 2 spectacles
Forty-five family attractions and two spectacles (one giant bubble show and one show with live lions) make Parc St Paul – just west of Beauvais and 90 minutes northwest of Paris via the A16 – highly recommended for a family day out in Northern France. It’s also great value for money, with no extra charges after entrance tickets and even free entry for those under 1m (3ft 3in) tall. Youi rarely have to queue for a ride for more than 10 minutes, and there’s plenty of shade for hot days.
Rides such as Wood Express with its 13 air-times (moments of weightlessness), the Formule1 coaster, and Tour Descente Extrême 40m drop-tower raise the pulses of young and older adventurers alike. There’s also a big wheel, a couple of dinosaur-themed rides, and optional illusions that have all the family giggling.
Don’t miss a relaxing trip around the lake aboard the Bateau Mississippi, a race against family members on the 10-lane Tobogliss slide, a walk hand-in-hand through the spooky Château Hanté, or petting mini goats at La Barbichette. Older kids can even strut their stuff on the dance-floor in Les Teen’s Party.
What is there to eat?
Plenty of picnic spaces, some covered, mean you can bring your own alfresco meal to Saint Paul with you. But there are appealing options on-site too, including buffet fare in L’Auberge Rouge, pizza in La Rotonde and French pancakes in La Crêperie du Lac.
Things to do within an hour’s drive of Saint Paul theme park
Other family adventures within easy reach of the Parc St Paul offer scope for cultural discovery and learning. The Château de Chantilly in the charming city of the same name is at the heart of a grand estate you can explore on foot, by bike or on horseback – just the ticket for family activity holidays in France. Aside its magnificent art collection and regal rooms, there’s the Musée du Cheval in the former royal stables, with exhibitions, live horses to visit, and sparkling equestrian shows under its great dome.
Another fairytale castle perfect for immersing yourself and the kids in French history, the Château de Pierrefonds will be familiar to some as Camelot in the BBC drama Merlin. With gargoyles, dungeons and grounds with giant catapults, it’s the perfect educational day out, best combined with a ride along the safe waymarked cycling routes through neighbouring Compiègne forest.
